This webinar will cover the Joint Commission 2012 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs). We will discuss the new goals in 2012 including the goal on catheter-associated urinary tract infections. This webinar will talk about how to be in compliance with the trend to allow hospitals and other healthcare facilities to keep up with the evidenced based practice and accepted clinical practices. The five elements of performance for medication reconciliation will be discussed. Joint Commission also made a change in September 27, 2010 on NPSG.01.03.01 on the two person verification process for blood transfusions.

  • Goal 7 Reduce the risk of health-care associated infections (central lines, Multi-drug resistant organisms, preventing surgical site infections, and hand hygiene, and catheter-associated urinary tract infections)
  • Goal 8 Medication reconciliation (changes effective July 1, 2011 and moved to Goal 3 as 03.06.01)
  • Goal 15 Identification of safety risks
  • Universal Protocol changes to prevent wrong site surgery
